Web 2.0 - it's everywhere!

I've always been aware of Web 2.0; however, it's reach was really brought home when I saw an article in the local Business Journal entitled, "Best practices with social media's 'Big Four'" - Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and YouTube. This was followed by an article by a good friend of mine who owns a marketing business who has a Digital Media Strategist on staff with a focus on Web 2.0. Then the Sunday paper had an expose on Facebook and "defriending". Finally, another article on how social networking sites can assist with one's career. Obviously, this phenomena is firmly entrenched in our psyche.

Creative Use of Web 2.0 . . .

I found this quick article fascinating, where real estate professionals are leveraging social media to benefit their business, especially in these tough economic times. Reminds me that tech savvy individuals have a leg up on the competition.

Web 2.0 & Me

What have been your prior experiences with Web 2.0 technologies? Do you consider yourself a leader or follower in this realm, or something else altogether? Why? Also, discuss what you hope to get out of this class.

My prior experience with Web 2.0 has until recently being on the periphery, using Facebook and MySpace for the most part. However recent courses within the curriculum have opened my eyes to wiki's, blogs (Podbean in particular), and the like. At this juncture, I'm pretty much a follower with my eye toward development into more of a leader - time will tell. I'm somewhat of a hybrid with a composite of leader and follower mixed together. That's likely due to my relative newness to the realm; I hope as time and experience increase, that'll change. I hope to develop a deeper appreciation for these technologies and an understanding of how to best leverage them. I'm open to the idea of W20 enhancing the learning experience. Good night all!

1st Day Reflections

We have quite a diverse group and one that looks energized for the task at hand. Was glad to a few old friends and some great new ones. I believe we'll all be learning a lot about Web 2.0, not only from the curriculum at hand, but from one another as well. I'm ready to dive in!

PS: that's me in Kauai in March; no I wasn't surfing, simply helping retrieve the board for the lad . . .

The first day . . .

This blog will serve as my musings throughout EME6635, my online graduate course in Web 2.0 technologies with Florida State University. I welcome my fellow classmates and any others who wish to opine on this fast-moving technology.
